Encaustic is an ancient medium based on beeswax combined with damar resin (a tree sap) to make a natural, non-toxic and stable medium. I make my collage from natural materials such as leaves, paper and hemp or cotton thread and fabric. These objects are layered with and encased in the enaustic medium. Encaustic has a luminescent surface and subtle depth that can invoke a warm, nostalgic feel but also be interesting with a contemporary touch as well.
